## Key takeaways

- The latest Bitcoin purchase cost an average of $86,194 per coin, including fees and expenses.
- Only STRC shares were repurchased; no buybacks were reported for the other three preferred series or MSTR.
- A $4.88 billion reserve for dividends and interest is tracked separately from $640.5 million in cash for broader treasury uses.

Preferred-share repurchases cost roughly nine times as much as Bitcoin purchases during October 5–11. New MSTR share sales supplied most of the money for the BTC acquisition.

Strategy bought 250 [Bitcoin](https://kriptometa.com/en/glossary/bitcoin) for $21.5 million during October 5–11, 2026, while spending $192.4 million to repurchase STRC preferred shares in the same week. Its [October 12 disclosure](https://www.strategy.com/press/strategy-acquires-250-btc-and-repurchases-192-million-of-strc_10-12-2026) puts total Bitcoin holdings at 848,250 BTC. The larger allocation went toward buying back outstanding STRC shares, rather than adding to the Bitcoin treasury.

## New MSTR share sales funded most of the Bitcoin purchase

The company raised $21 million through its at-the-market offering program, which allows it to sell shares at prevailing market prices. It sold 125,183 MSTR Class A common shares during the week. Strategy said the proceeds, net of sales commissions, funded Bitcoin purchases. Another $500,000 came from its cash balance for general treasury purposes.

The latest 250 BTC cost an average of $86,194 per coin, including fees and expenses. Across the full Bitcoin treasury, aggregate purchase cost was approximately $64 billion, or an average of $75,444 per BTC. The latest batch was therefore acquired above the portfolio’s [average cost](https://kriptometa.com/en/tools/crypto-average-cost-calculator). The disclosed costs do not represent the [current Bitcoin price](https://kriptometa.com/en/markets/bitcoin).

## STRC repurchases were roughly nine times larger

Strategy bought back 1,932,145 STRC shares under its repurchase program. STRC is a variable-rate preferred-share series, separate from MSTR common stock. The $192.4 million spent on STRC was roughly nine times the $21.5 million allocated to Bitcoin purchases that week.

No repurchases were reported for the STRF, STRK or STRD preferred series, or for MSTR common stock, during the period. The MSTR transactions were new share sales. While the release identifies the two sources of funding for the Bitcoin purchase, it does not give the same breakdown of the cash used for STRC repurchases.

As of October 11, the preferred-stock repurchase program had $354.8 million of capacity remaining. A separate $1 billion remained available for MSTR common-stock repurchases. Unused authorizations do not commit the company to a particular amount or date for future transactions.

## The dollar reserve has a separate role from treasury cash

Strategy reported a $4.88 billion dollar reserve intended to support preferred-stock dividends and interest on outstanding debt. A separate $640.5 million cash balance serves broader treasury purposes. Management can use that balance to acquire Bitcoin, expand the reserve or carry out other capital-management transactions. It supplied the $500,000 cash contribution to the week’s Bitcoin purchases.

**Repurchases and new share sales move money in opposite directions.** Selling MSTR shares raised funds; repurchasing STRC used funds. The $192.4 million spent on STRC should not be added to the acquisition cost of the 250 BTC.
