## Key takeaways

- Phase one includes 189 distinct Troves and Bronze and Silver banking tiers. Upland has not announced an exact launch time.
- Banked items cannot be withdrawn or used in recipes. Crafting will not be available on the first day.
- The $20 Block Explorer bundle is optional. Players do not need to buy one to collect Troves, bank items or start progressing.

Upland plans to let players collect Troves, add items permanently to their collections and gain player levels on October 22. Players will also be able to save finds for crafting recipes due in later phases.

[Virtual city](https://kriptometa.com/en/glossary/metaverse)-building game Upland plans to make its Troves collectibles available on October 22. The company’s [October 20 announcement](https://upland.me/events/troves-go-live-october-22-collect-bank-and-progress) says players will initially have 189 distinct items to collect. They will also be able to bank finds permanently and work toward new player levels. Upland has not announced an exact launch time.

The developer will keep Troves in beta throughout the phased rollout and may adjust the rules in response to gameplay. It can change beta progression rewards and plans different starter rewards for new players later in the year. Troves acquired during Genesis Week will be removed from inventories, except for Genome Troves, which players will retain.

## What are Troves, and which ones can be traded?

Upland players build neighborhoods on virtual properties representing real-world addresses. They will gather Troves resources and objects around the map and through gameplay. The official [Troves guide](https://upland.me/learn/what-are-troves) defines five categories. Most items remain bound to the player’s account, with only specific types eligible for trading. Not every collectible is a tradable [NFT](https://kriptometa.com/en/glossary/nft).

The five Troves categories and their uses in Upland’s guide
| Category | Described use |
|---|---|
| Care | Items used to maintain plants, animals and other living things. |
| Resource | Raw materials obtained from sources such as STEM plants. |
| Social | Items connected with visits, petting and community gatherings. |
| Utility | Tools and components for crafting recipes. |
| Valuables | Rarer items, some of which can be traded. |

Not every activity described in the guide will be available on day one. Upland’s [October 8 update](https://upland.me/events/troves-are-coming-get-your-neighborhood-ready) envisaged more than 500 Troves over time. The 189 scheduled for October 22 make up the first part of that broader collection. Additional items, recipes and banking tiers will follow in stages over the coming weeks.

## Banked items cannot be taken back

Players can keep a Trove in their inventory or commit it to a permanent collection through banking. Under the official [Banking and Progression guide](https://upland.me/learn/trove-banking-and-progression), a banked item appears in the Trove Vault and cannot be withdrawn, spent on a quest or put into a recipe. Spending normally consumes an item and removes it from the account; banking preserves it in the player’s collection history.

Bronze and Silver tiers will be available initially, with Gold, Platinum and Diamond among the higher tiers reserved for later phases. The number of copies needed varies by Trove: common items generally require more copies, while rare ones need fewer. Players with enough copies can move straight to a higher tier once Upland makes it available, without completing each intermediate step.

Progression will track a player’s overall level. Players can gain levels by banking Troves, developing property collections, completing specified objectives and advancing in Upland’s existing status system. Status labels such as Uplander, Pro, Executive and Director will remain in place, with the progression level and shield displayed beneath the status on the profile.

Players can earn map assets, UPX bonuses, collectibles and customization items by completing specified milestones. A player’s profile will show the next target and its reward. Upland also plans Troves competitions, although their rules and prizes have not yet been announced.

Upland named October 22 for collecting, permanent banking and player progression in its October 20 X post.

## All Block Explorers contribute to the stamina pool

Collecting items around the map will consume stamina, including attempts that produce Trove Dust. Upland’s [October 12 explainer](https://upland.me/events/your-block-explorers-are-ready-for-their-next-adventure) says every player will start with a daily allowance of 100 stamina. All of a player’s Block Explorer characters will add capacity according to their rarity. Players will not need to switch between characters to use their combined capacity. The developer says it may revise the starting values based on gameplay.

When inspecting another player’s Block Explorer, the displayed figure will be its maximum capacity rather than its remaining stamina. Buying or transferring a character will not replenish it. The recipient of an exhausted Explorer must wait for the next refill. Upland is exploring extra character abilities, including advantages when collecting particular items. The developer has not confirmed which bonuses, if any, will be ready at launch.

## Recipes will follow; paid bundles are optional

Players will be able to collect items on the first day but will not have crafting recipes. To illustrate a later use, the guide describes combining wheat and milk at a bakery to make bread, then using the bread to satisfy a request from an Uppie, one of the game’s virtual residents. Upland plans farming and automation involving Uppies to gather larger quantities, with bulk recipes to process stockpiles. The developer plans to introduce large-scale collecting and production in later phases.

The accompanying Troves After Dark sale offers six Block Explorer designs: Rattlebag, Patchwick, Gribbin, Jinx, Flit and Spindle. Each design has a supply of 70. A $20 bundle includes the chosen character and 20,000 UPX, with each Explorer contributing 150 stamina. Under the announced schedule, registration opened on October 20 and sales began on October 21, running until October 25. No further designs will be added to the series.

Upland says future commemorative Explorers sold at the same price and in the same quantities will come with the standard stamina allowance. Little Frights and Troves After Dark Explorers will retain their existing 150 stamina. Players do not need to buy a bundle to collect or bank Troves, or to start gaining levels.

The [02:15 chapter of Upland’s official October 20 video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZLxGb94Ye0&t=135s) explains that players cannot take an item back after banking it. The 7-minute, 10-second recording has separate chapters on the absence of crafting at launch and the paid Explorers.

**The bundle’s UPX is not a cash payment.** Upland’s [currency guide](https://upland.me/learn/upx-sparklet-and-stem) says players use UPX for property purchases, trading and fees within the game. Players cannot trade UPX outside Upland. The bundle credits 20,000 UPX to the in-game balance; it does not pay out $20 in cash.
