Key takeaways

  • BAYC and MAYC holders can claim more than 140,000 packs.
  • Each NFT trade carries a 2.5% APE allocation alongside a separate 2.5% royalty.
  • The Otherside game currently uses demo cards; use of collectors’ onchain cards is planned for later.

Yuga Labs’ new collection has 120 card designs. NFT trades are intended to fund APE distributions, while physical redemption and pack-combining tools remain marked “coming soon.”

Yuga Labs launched Mudwater, a collection of NFTs paired with physical trading cards, on Solana. Its October 17 announcement opened pack claims to Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) holders.

The official claim page allocates 10 packs to each Bored Ape and two to each Mutant Ape. Eligible holders have until January 19, 2027, at 00:00 UTC to claim more than 140,000 packs. The page asks users to connect an Ethereum wallet to check eligibility, while the new collection’s digital items reside on Solana.

A fixed supply of 240,000 packs

The Mudwater collection page lists 120 card designs and 2.4 million cards in total. Each pack contains 10 cards and each box holds 24 packs, putting the fixed supply of 10,000 boxes at 240,000 packs. Foil and serialized editions include eight one-of-one “cracked ice” cards.

The distribution plan assigns 7,134 boxes, or 171,216 packs, to the community airdrop. That allocation includes packs for holders’ wallets as well as boxes for ApeFest attendees. The remaining supply is divided between community onboarding at 5.66%, partner communities at 3% and a commercial distribution reserve at 20%.

APE distributions come alongside royalties

Under Yuga’s stated model, 2.5% of each digital Mudwater trade will buy APE for distribution to collectors in proportion to their holdings. Sealed cases, boxes and packs count as well as individual cards. The site also specifies a separate 2.5% royalty.

Two-way conversion between physical and digital cards is planned: redeeming a token will trigger shipment of a printed card from the warehouse, while a physical card sent back will be verified and tokenized again. The conversion button is currently disabled and marked “coming soon.” The page does not give a service launch date or shipping cost.

Pack combining is also still to come. The planned tool will turn 24 pack tokens into a sealed box token, or 10 box tokens into a case token.

The Mudwater game in Otherside is playable with demo cards, according to the launch site. Bringing collectors’ onchain cards into the game is planned for a later stage. The short gameplay demonstration on the official site shows a card match at a table.
