What is Curve Finance? A swap protocol explained

Added:

Curve Finance is a DeFi protocol where users swap tokens against liquidity held in smart contracts. It is known for closely priced assets, while other pool designs support assets whose prices move independently.

A trader contributes one asset and receives another. A liquidity provider commits capital to a pool and takes on a different set of risks. Making a swap does not automatically make someone a liquidity provider.

Curve, CRV and StableSwap

Curve names the protocol; CRV is its ecosystem’s governance token. StableSwap is an algorithm designed for closely priced assets. An automated market maker is the broader category of mechanism.

Example

Alex has 500 USDC and selects USDT as the output on Curve. The quote may differ from 500 USDT because of fees and pool conditions. Completing only the swap gives Alex USDT, not a share of the pool. This is a hypothetical scenario rather than a live quote.

The name stablecoin does not guarantee either a price peg or a swap result. Token, contract and network risks remain.
