What is L2BEAT? A Layer 2 research platform
L2BEAT is a research and data platform covering Ethereum's scaling ecosystem. It presents asset values, activity and the trust assumptions behind Layer 2 networks and rollups. It is not a trading exchange or a wallet that holds users' funds.
Each project's risk rosette separates validation, data access, operator failures and exit conditions around upgrades. Stage 0, 1 and 2 describe decentralization maturity. Reaching a higher stage does not certify that the contracts contain no bugs.
Example
Alex is comparing two networks used by an application. The first holds a larger asset total; the second appears to give administrators fewer powers. Opening their L2BEAT profiles lets Alex read the underlying explanations and separate asset size from trust assumptions. The scenario is hypothetical, not a recommendation to choose either network.
Record the date, active filters and warnings before citing a figure. L2BEAT's explanation distinguishes assets available on a network from funds locked in DeFi applications. Token prices, custody arrangements and application contracts still require their own evidence.
