Bitcoin fell below $80,000 on October 24 before returning to around $80,100 later in the day. At 17:35 UTC, CoinGlass data showed $812.99 million in liquidations across the derivatives markets it tracks over the preceding 24 hours. Long positions, which profit from rising prices, accounted for $689.27 million of the forced closures.
Bitcoin stood at $80,150.9 in the same observation, down 1.78% over 24 hours. At 17:41 UTC, CoinGecko’s price page showed a 24-hour range of $79,262.78–$81,588.28. Bitcoin was back above $80,000 on both dashboards at those observation times.
At 12:07 UTC on October 23, Bitcoin stood at $81,627 and the rolling 24-hour liquidation total was $330.95 million. Both the price and the value of positions closed over the preceding 24 hours had changed by Saturday evening; the earlier total is not added to the current figure.
Long positions made up 84.8% of liquidations
CoinGlass attributed 84.8% of the 24-hour total to longs and 15.2% to short positions, which profit from falling prices. Short liquidations totalled $123.72 million. The platform said positions held by 197,839 traders were liquidated during the period. The largest single closure was an $11.85 million ETH/USDT long on Binance.
The four-hour total was $436.43 million, including $403.06 million in longs and $33.38 million in shorts. Over the latest hour, shorts accounted for $8.37 million of the $8.84 million total. Longs remained by far the larger share over 24 hours.
| Rolling window | Long | Short | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 hours | 403.06 | 33.38 | 436.43 |
| 12 hours | 449.93 | 42.22 | 492.15 |
| 24 hours | 689.27 | 123.72 | 812.99 |
Bitcoin liquidations reached $238m; Ether totalled $184m
CoinGlass reported $223.13 million in Bitcoin long liquidations and $14.95 million in shorts. Ether long liquidations totalled $169.88 million, with a further $13.69 million in shorts. Longs and shorts together totalled $238.08 million for Bitcoin and $183.57 million for Ether.
Other large crypto assets were also down. At 17:35 UTC, CoinGlass showed Ether at $2,314.74, down 3.84%; Solana at $100.12, down 4.16%; and XRP at $1.2737, down 2.77%. All three percentage changes cover the preceding 24 hours.
Leverage lets a trader open a position larger than the collateral committed. If the price moves against the trade, the collateral can fall below the minimum an exchange requires to keep the position open. The exchange may then forcibly close it. CoinGlass’s liquidation figures track the value of positions closed, rather than the cash traders originally deposited or the decline in total crypto market value.
ETFs ended the week with $301.2m in net inflows
Farside’s table for US spot Bitcoin ETFs showed net outflows of $635.6 million on Thursday, October 22, and $137.9 million on Friday, October 23. Combined outflows were $773.5 million. Friday’s figures included $110.3 million leaving IBIT and $31.8 million leaving FBTC, partly offset by $4.2 million entering MSBT.
Net inflows across October 19, 20 and 21 totalled $1,074.7 million. Subtracting Thursday and Friday’s outflows leaves $301.2 million in net inflows for October 19–23. Farside’s weekly summary posted on October 24 also reported $301.2 million, including $565.7 million in weekly net inflows for IBIT.
| Trading date | Net flow |
|---|---|
| October 19 | +526.7 |
| October 20 | +23.2 |
| October 21 | +524.8 |
| October 22 | −635.6 |
| October 23 | −137.9 |
Farside left Friday’s HODL amount blank in the daily table. Although it reported zero for HODL in the weekly post, it did not separately explain the missing Friday value. Friday’s total therefore remains the provider’s reported figure and may change when missing data or corrections arrive.

Why ETF outflows cannot be added to liquidations
Farside calculates net money entering and leaving funds for each US trading date. CoinGlass totals forced closures of leveraged positions over the preceding 4, 12 or 24 hours. Adding ETF outflows to liquidations would not produce a meaningful measure of market losses. CoinGlass and Farside give no separate estimate of how much ETF outflows contributed to Saturday’s price decline.
The $813 million figure is CoinGlass’s reported 24-hour total. Alongside crypto assets, the dashboard includes contracts linked to gold, silver and exchange-traded products, such as XAU, XAG and SOXL. The platform obtains data from exchanges’ public channels and official API connections, which transmit data automatically. It notes that Binance and OKX liquidation feeds are limited to at most one update per second; during rapid moves, data may be aggregated or appear with a delay.
