What is Decentraland LAND? Parcels and ownership

Decentraland LAND represents ownership of virtual Genesis City parcels as NFT assets on Ethereum. Each parcel has distinct x,y coordinates. LAND is separate from MANA and from assets carrying the same name on other platforms.
The documented parcel size is 16×16 virtual metres. Directly adjacent parcels can be grouped into an Estate for management. A road or another parcel between holdings breaks that adjacency.
Example
Consider illustrative parcels at (10,20) and (11,20). Their adjacency matters to someone planning a larger scene. Buying (10,20) and (12,20) would not join the two if someone else owns the parcel between them. These coordinates explain the concept; they are not verified sale listings or ownership records.
