What is Arweave (AR)? A permanent storage network

Added:

Arweave is a distributed storage network that uses economic incentives to preserve data over time. AR is its payment asset. An upload fee helps fund storage, including a reserve intended to cover future costs.

Paying upfront is not an unconditional promise that every file will remain accessible through every web address forever. Retaining data, funding its storage and delivering it to a browser are separate tasks.

Example: A research report that should not change

A researcher uploads the final edition of a report and pays the quoted storage fee. A correction six months later requires a new edition and a new reference for readers rather than overwriting the old report. Persistent records can help preserve publication history; they are a poor fit for personal information that may need to be erased later.

AR's payment role does not guarantee an investment return. More uploaded files need not produce a proportional increase in its market price. The link between usage and token value belongs to tokenomics.

The Arweave storage endowment explains how part of the fee supports future retention. Our Arweave analysis uses archived block records to examine when usage growth may matter economically for AR.
