What is the Arweave storage endowment?
The Arweave storage endowment is an AR reserve intended to help fund future data retention. Part of an upfront upload payment supports later service instead of requiring the uploader to renew a storage bill for the same file every year.
The reserve is neither a dividend account for token holders nor token burning. Its AR balance and the storage capacity that balance can buy are different measures. AR's market value and storage costs can move in different directions.
Example: A growing reserve and a growing obligation
Suppose a hypothetical reserve holds 1,000 AR. New files contribute 100 AR, while storing existing data consumes 30 AR. Ignoring other movements, the ending balance is 1,070 AR. The net increase is 70 AR, the gross contribution is 100 AR, and token holders receive no payment in this example.
The newly added files also require storage in later years. A higher reserve balance alone cannot establish that every future storage cost is fully funded.
Our Arweave analysis examines the relationship using actual reserve and data-size records. Moving from the definition to an investment assessment requires reading payment flows alongside future costs.
