What is DeFiLlama?

Added:
Updated:

DeFiLlama is an analytics platform that brings together data on decentralised finance protocols, including locked value, trading volume, fees and revenue. It helps readers compare protocols and blockchain networks using selected measures.

What data does DeFiLlama show?

TVL measures the value of assets covered by a protocol’s contracts, trading volume measures activity over a period, and fees measure what users pay for a service. Those metrics answer different questions; they cannot be collapsed into a single score for size or success.

Published calculation notes and open-source adapters help readers investigate where the data comes from. For example, a protocol’s total across all chains has a different scope from its assets on one chain. A large number does not substitute for a contract security assessment.

Is DeFiLlama an exchange or a wallet?

The core data dashboards are neither an exchange account for placing orders nor a wallet that manages your keys. The site can link to separate swap services. Opening a transaction interface is a different action from reading protocol data.

To investigate individual transactions, a block explorer is the relevant tool. DeFiLlama focuses on bringing protocol and network measurements together for comparison.

The real screens in our DeFiLlama review show how filter choices change the totals and why fees and revenue need separate readings.

Example

Suppose a hypothetical protocol has $50 million in TVL on Ethereum and $30 million on Arbitrum. With no other chains or double counting, the all-chain total is $80 million; selecting Ethereum alone shows $50 million. The $30 million difference reflects the scope excluded by the filter, not money withdrawn at that moment. These figures are illustrative, not live DeFiLlama data.
